Pumpkin Bread
Wow, this week went by super super fast. I feel like I still haven’t done anything noteworthy other than copious amounts of homework once again– but hey, at least I’m staying on top of my school work! The big sea kayaking overnight expedition is supposed to be this weekend, so I’ve been working really hard to get ahead so I don’t have to stress about writing papers while I’m in the wilderness. It, unfortunately, was postponed due to severe weather conditions this morning (even though it’s super nice out right now…). I did end up going downtown earlier this week though. It’s fun to walk around for a little while, but all the cruise ships and tourists definitely made it hard to really enjoy it.
For my Sustainable Resource Management class, we actually got to go to the state museum on a field trip this week. My friends and I learned about Alaskan salmon canneries (and how bad it was when they merged and monopolized the industry). We also colored some octopi in the kid’s room, which was actually really fun despite how childish it sounds. Later in the week, I led the discussion for my Marine Mammalogy class! In preparation for Whalefest in November, we’re reading a bunch of scientific research reports on whale mating behaviors and talking about them in class. The cool part is that we actually get to meet the authors when we travel to Whalefest, so it’s like a huge nerdy celebrity meet and greet. I also made my roommates some pumpkin bread this week since it’s officially the best time of year (yay love Fall!). We’ve put up some decorations and have started making plans for Halloween too, so I’m getting super excited!
Last night, I heard about Hurricane Ian hitting pretty hard back home, so I stayed up really late watching all the videos of the piers getting destroyed and all the streets flooding 10 minutes from my home. Thankfully, my friends and family weren’t at risk, but it was still weirdly scary watching it all happen from this far away. As for the rest of today, I’ll probably be writing the rest of next week’s essays and packing for the big camping trip! I’ll include it in next week’s post since it was delayed.
I cant wait to hear about the big sea kayaking overnight expedition! I hope it went well. It's a great idea to get ahead on school work so you can fully enjoy your experiences. I need to try this pumpkin bread, you reminded me to start to get into the Halloween spirit!
